The Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation operates a Business Advisory Centre that offers free professional consultations, by appointment, to advise business owners and entrepreneurs about key aspects of start up and maintenance of successful operations.  These aspects include evaluating your business idea, finding financing, developing a business plan and creating a marketing strategy just to name a few.

Community Futures Peterborough

The Community Futures Peterborough is a not-for-profit corporation, run by 16 volunteer Board of Directors. CFP staff under the guidance of this Board of Directors, generate and assist in the creation of employment opportunities by supporting small business through flexible financing and business counselling services. The CFP receives operational support for 3 full time staff through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. This year marks the 30th anniversary. The CFP has been assisting the Peterborough community since 1985. All business counselling servies are confidential and free of charge.

Some of the things they can help with include:

  • Business Plan Review
    To review your completed business plan just drop a copy off at our office. We will evaluate your business plan, and give you constructive feedback and evaluation to assist you in moving your business forward. Business plan templates are available on our website.
  • Business Advisory Services
    Whether you're just starting out, or you need advice to face a particular business challenge, the CFP can help.  Make an appointment for consultation and we can help with mentoring, counselling, marketing and loans.
  • Start Up Packages
    This comprehensive package provides the tools you need to start a business. Start up packages are available at our office.

  • Businesses that receive CFDC loans grow faster than those that don't: average growth revenue of 14.9% vs. 6.9%
  • The Peterborough CFDC has provided 650+ businesses with start up and expansion loans
  • The total amount of capital that the CFDC has invested in the community is over $24 million
