We support a healthy community with a lifestyle and economy that sustains the natural environment and heritage of North Kawartha.

About Us

The Township of North Kawartha is a municipal government, comprised of the former municipalities of Burleigh-Anstruther and Chandos, providing services to a population of approximately 2,877 year round residents and 12,000 seasonal residents for a total population of approximately 14,877 residents.

North Kawartha is located midway between the City of Peterborough and the Town of Bancroft, which both offer all the amenities of larger urban centres. Within the Township are smaller urbanized areas such as the village of Apsley, and the hamlets of Big Cedar, Burleigh Falls, Glen Alda, Mount Julian, Stoneyridge and Woodview.

Additionally, there are beaches, parks and green spaces, as well as year-round recreational programs and facilities, including a seasonal indoor ice surface. The many area attractions also include snowmobile, skiing and hiking trails. All of which make North Kawartha a very popular tourist destination.

Today, many cottagers have become permanent residents, contributing year-round to the recreational and cultural activities that enrich community life.
