COVID-19 Notice

The Township of North Kawartha is taking actions to help protect the health of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please visit the Township website’s COVID-19 page to stay informed of additional closures/changes to Township services, amenities, and programs. Contact us at 705-656-4445, or by using the direct phone lines and email addresses found in our Contact Us directory.

The provincial government announcement of May 20th allows certain outdoor recreational amenities to open, effective 12:01 am on Saturday, May 22nd as per amended O. Reg 82/20. This decision was due to the release of new modelling data. You are reminded that the Stay-at-Home Order remains in effect until June 2nd. This means that leaving home should be for essential reasons only. Exercise at an outdoor recreational amenity that is permitted to be open is an essential reason to leave the home, but it should be done within one’s own community, and not out of (in this case) the Peterborough Public Health Unit region.

Outdoor recreation amenities re-opening include the tennis & pickleball courts and sports field at Wilson Park. These are in addition to the playgrounds and boat launches that were already open. All public beaches remain closed, including the beaches at Chandos and Quarry Bay. If you use the opened amenities, you are again reminded of the following: Physical distancing of 2 metres must be maintained between anyone who is not from the same household, masks are strongly recommended in outdoor settings where it may be busy or crowded and physical distancing is not always possible, team sports are not allowed, and sports & recreation activities that cannot provide a minimum of 2 metres distancing are not allowed.

To ensure public safety, and be in compliance with Peterborough Public Health recommendations and Provincial Government orders that came into effect at 12:01 am on Saturday, April 03, 2021 (amended April 08th and April 17th), the Township must continue to keep closed the North KawarthaWilson Park, and Glen Alda Community Centres, which means programs and/or services at the Community Centres will be suspended for a minimum of six weeks. This includes the Fitness Centre, the NKCC ice surface, and all other programming.

Thank you for your co-operation and patience.

There are many community and special interest groups to choose from in North Kawartha, however, in consideration of all the closures/restrictions mentioned above, many of events and groups listed here are temporarily suspended. Please contact the individual organizers for current information.
