Building and Property

Building, Sewage Disposal, Planning and By-Law Enforcement duties are handled mostly by the Building Department. The department consists of a:

  • Chief Building Official/By-Law Enforcement Officer
  • Deputy Chief Building Official/By-Law Enforcement Officer
  • Junior Planner
  • Building and Planning Assistant/Secretary

Contact the Building Department with your questions on demolition, construction, sewage disposal systems (septics), property zoning, the Official Plan, direction for subdivisions, home businesses, property standards and other related by-law information.

Please Note: We cannot stress enough how important it is to always check with our Building Officials prior to beginning any project. This is to make sure that you have met all requirements, have all the necessary approvals and are in compliance with all applicable regulations. Failure to do this can cause a delay of the processing of your application. If you have started your project, you could be required to remove it if it does not comply to the applicable requirements. It is therefore, in your best interest to consult with us while your project is in the planning stages.

Located on the lower level of the Municipal Office, the Building Department has a separate entrance.

Inspections are scheduled: Monday to Friday. A minimum of two days notice is required to schedule an inspection.


Building and Planning Application Payment Options

Payment for application permits can be made by cash, cheque, debit or credit card.

How to pay with a credit card using Paymentus:

The Township of North Kawartha uses a secure, third-party online credit card payment service called Paymentus.You can pay your bill any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using your MasterCard or VISA. Paymentus will charge a 1.75% service fee for each transaction.

Credit Card Payments Through Paymentus

To pay online with a credit card, please go to Paymentus. It is important to go to this specific link because it redirects you to the Paymentus Online Township of North Kawartha Payment System site. The payment type will be listed as “Building Permits”.

To pay by credit card over the phone, you can use the secure, automated telephone payment system at 1-844-293-2299.
In order to make your payment online or over the phone, you'll need:
•The property assessment roll number
•The amount to be paid
•Your credit card number, including security code on the back of the card
•An email address to receive an electronic confirmation of your transaction

Building and Planning Information Requests

Legal representatives and/or lending institutions can order tax certificates, work orders, building permits, survey and zoning information by submitting the Request for Property Information Form or a letter of request to the Accounting Assistant.

The fee for each request is broken out on the form and in our Fees and Charges By-law 2018-052. You may include proof of payment with your request in order to receive the results electronically as soon as possible.
