Hazardous Waste
The Anstruther Transfer Station is host (seasonally) to a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) depot, operated by the County of Peterborough. The acceptable items listed below are at no charge.
The County/City of Peterborough's Household Hazardous Waste Depot is also available to North Kawartha ratepayers, and is located at 400 Pido Road, Peterborough ON K9J 6X7. For additional County HHW information click here.
Do not put household hazardous waste in your garbage. Here are some tips for disposing of your household hazardous waste:
- Never mix substances
- Keep materials in their original container or in a well-marked container
- All containers should be securely sealed
- Securely pack materials in your vehicle to prevent spills
HHW Depot at the Anstruther Transfer Station
Hours of Operation
June 4th to September 20th, 2023
Sundays - 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Wednesdays - 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Please note: on Wednesday, September 20th (only) the HHW hours are 9 am to 12 pm.

- Aerosols
- Antifreeze
- Automotive fluids
- Batteries (all kinds)
- Cleaners (all kinds)
- Cosmetics/make-up
- Fertilizers
- Fire extinguishers
- Fluorescent light bulbs/tubes
- Gasoline
- Glues
- Herbicides
- Ink cartridges
- Mercury containing devices
- Motor oil
- Paint
- Pesticides
- Pet care products
- Pool chemicals
- Propane cylinders (50kg/100lb maximum)
- Sealants and stains
Non-acceptable Items:
- Bio-medical waste
- Commercial hazardous waste (e.g. mechanics)
- Explosives (including firecrackers and ammunition)
- Pharmaceuticals (see below)
- Needles (see below)
Please note: We do not accept sharps (needles, syringes, and lancets) or medications (prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, and supplements) at the Household Hazardous Waste depot.
