Recreation Programs

We offer a variety of recreation programs. In addition to annual seasonal programs such as baseball, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, an adult hockey league, and figure skating, we also sponsor other programs such as ping pong, adult pickleball, pick-up hockey, and plenty of public skating.

We work closely with the AMHA (Apsley Minor Hockey Association), and host a Junior C hockey team - the North Kawartha Knights. There is also the fully-equipped NKCC Fitness Centre, and various fitness classes are offered. In the Summer there are beach volleyball, basketball, and tennis/pickleball courts, as well as a baseball diamond at Wilson Park. And we are always open to looking at new program ideas. For more detailed information on our recreation programs, please choose from the drop-downs below, or contact us at 705-656-4445.

In addition to our recreation programs, there is always lots to see and do in North Kawartha. Figure skating lessons at the NKCC begin September 14, 2021 and end with the North Kawartha Figure Skating Club Wrap-up on Saturday, April 02, 2022.

We're aware that many were anxiously awaiting the return of the Gymnastics Program at the NKCC. The Township of North Kawartha has taken actions which include working closely with the Public Health Unit to help protect the health of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we are also requesting that members of the public share some of that responsibility, by observing the rules and regulations that have been put in place for your protection, and the protection of others.

Instead of running separate Fall and Winter programs, this year we are running a 19 week program commencing Monday, November 2nd, 2020, and culminating with a show on Friday, April 9th, 2021 (excluding the Holiday Season, Family Day, March Break, and Easter).

Each class size is limited to 6 for the protection of everyone, and to allow for greater supervision of students.

To help protect the health of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic, registration for the Winter 2020/21 Gymnastics Program had to be adjusted to ensure the safety of all involved.

Registration Forms and Participation Waivers will also be available at the NKCC and must be completed and signed prior to the first class. So please arrive early to go over the details in the new protocols. Pickleball was created with one thing in mind: fun. It was designed to be easy to learn and play, whether you’re five, eighty-five, or somewhere in-between. It is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special pickleball paddles, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The wiffle ball and smaller court size allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle.

For additional information regarding Adult Pickleball at the Apsley Public School, please contact Brian Conley at 705-656-2695 or email: b.conley2139@gmail.com.

The Peterborough Public Health website has lots of valuable information pertaining to swimming and public beaches, including current test results.

In January, 2022 The Canadian Red Cross announced that it was “winding down” its swimming and lifeguard lessons through 2022, saying it would direct more of its attention to disaster relief, pandemic response, opioid harm reduction, and care-giving for seniors. Therefore, although we will no longer be offering Red Cross Swim Programs we are transitioning to the Lifesaving Society's accredited programs, some of which we have offered in the past. All of this  means that swim lessons will be offered again this year at Chandos, Quarry Bay Beach and on Jack Lake (between Forest Glen Marina and Anchorage Marina).

Swim Lessons are 30 minutes in length. Lifesaving Society Bronze Program lessons are 45 to 60 minutes in length.

Please note: The times listed below are approximate, and subject to change, dependent upon enrollment. All sessions run every weekday, Monday through Friday, inclusive.
