Covid-19 Notice

The Township of North Kawartha is taking actions to help protect the health of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please visit our Covid-19 page to stay informed of closures/changes to Township servicesamenities, and programs

As Garbage and Recycling Collection is deemed an essential service, the Waste/Transfer Stations will maintain regular hours but will not be accepting Textiles, or Re-Use Depot items until further notice. Curbside Collection will continue as per the normal schedule.

The Township of North Kawartha has suspended all programs and/or services at the North KawarthaWilson Park, and Glen Alda Community Centres until further notice. In compliance with Provincial Government orders to prohibit organized public events and social gatherings of more than five people, Wilson Park, Glen Alda, and Lions playgrounds are closed, Chandos and Quarry Bay beaches are closed.

Some North Kawartha Sports and Recreational Amenities are re-opening (with restrictions). Included are the Tennis/Pickleball courts (singles only) and baseball diamond at Wilson Park, in addition to the Picnic Shelter and Benches at Wilson Park and the Glen Alda Community Centre.

Under normal circumstances we offer a variety of recreation programs. On top of annual seasonal programs such as baseball, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, an adult hockey league, and figure skating, we also sponsor other programs such as ping pong, adult pickleball, pick-up hockey, and plenty of public skating.

We work closely with the AMHA (Apsley Minor Hockey Association), and host a Junior C hockey team - the North Kawartha Knights. There is also the fully-equipped NKCC Fitness Centre, and various fitness classes are offered. In the Summer there are beach volleyball, basketball, and tennis/pickleball courts, as well as a baseball diamond at Wilson Park. And we are always open to looking at new program ideas.

For more detailed information on our recreation programs, please choose from the dropdowns below, or contact us at 705-656-4445.

In addition to our recreation programs, there is always lots to see and do in North Kawartha. Beyond this page, you will find various fun, exciting, and informative events on the following pages: Area AttractionsCommunity CalendarCommunity Centre Events and Activities - RecurringCommunity GroupsSpecial Events and in the North Kawartha Directory. Pickleball (Adult, Seasonal, Indoor)

This year's dates are suspended, due to Covid-19 considerations.

Adult Pickleball for male and female adults (ages 18 and up) is played from September to June, on Monday and Thursday nights, from 7 pm to 9 pm, at The Apsley Public School (238 Burleigh Street, Apsley ON K0L 1A0).

Pickleball was created with one thing in mind: fun. It was designed to be easy to learn and play, whether you’re five, eighty-five, or somewhere in-between. It is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special pickleball paddles, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The wiffle ball and smaller court size allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle.

For additional information regarding Adult Pickleball, please contact Brian Conley at 705-656-2695 or email: b.conley2139@gmail.com.

Pickleball at Wilson Park
Pickleball was created with one thing in mind: fun. It was designed to be easy to learn and play, whether you’re five, eighty-five, or somewhere in-between. It is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special pickleball paddles, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The wiffle ball and smaller court size allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle.
