Peterborough County OPP Detachment Board Seeks Community Members
The Peterborough County OPP Detachment Board is inviting residents to apply for positions as Community Appointees, giving the public an important voice in local policing oversight.
The Board, established under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019, acts as a bridge between the Ontario Provincial Police and the communities of Peterborough County. It provides oversight of policing activities, helps set local policies, and ensures transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
Previously, each municipality had its own Police Service Board. Since April 1, 2024, all municipal boards have been merged into this single Detachment Board. Members of the Board are responsible for completing mandatory training, reviewing and monitoring the OPP Detachment Commander’s local action plan, presenting annual reports to municipal councils, and preparing policies, by-laws, and operational budgets.
The Board is seeking a total of three Community Appointees from residents of the following areas: Curve Lake First Nation, Hiawatha First Nation, Asphodel-Norwood, Douro-Dummer, Havelock-Belmont-Methuen, North Kawartha, Otonabee-South Monaghan, Selwyn (Smith and Ennismore Wards), and Trent Lakes.
Community Appointees receive a $100 stipend per regular meeting, plus mileage reimbursement at the CRA rate. The Board meets quarterly on the fourth Monday of January, April, July, and October at 1:00 p.m. at the Peterborough County Courthouse (470 Water St., Peterborough).
Appointments run concurrently with the current municipal term, ending November 14, 2026, after which a new application process will open for the 2027–2030 term.

An information session will be held Friday, October 17, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Peterborough County OPP Detachment, located at 453 Lansdowne St E, Peterborough.
