Short-term Rental Advisory Committee Public Engagement Invitation and Preliminary Recommendations

The Council of the Township of North Kawartha has appointed a Short-Term Rental Advisory Committee to examine matters related to the operation of short-term rentals (STRs) within the Township. Please note that it is not the mandate of the Committee to ban short-term rentals.

Since January 2024, the Committee has:

  • Received public delegations;
  • Reviewed practices in other municipalities; and
  • Assessed local issues through a range of reports and a public survey

Based on this work, the Committee has developed preliminary recommendations. These recommendations suggest that most concerns may be addressed through existing by-laws. The Committee also notes a significant gap between the number of formal complaints received by the Township and the concerns expressed through the public survey. Additionally, many of the issues raised are not exclusive to STRs.

The preliminary recommendations are outlined in the minutes from the Committee’s most recent meeting, available here: July 8, 2025, Short-term Rental Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes

The Committee will further discuss these recommendations at its next meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.

Members of the public are welcome to observe or share their input, either in person at the meeting, virtually via Zoom, or by submitting written comments to the Clerk/Secretary of the Committee at c.parent@northkawartha.ca or 705-656-5187.

The meeting will also be recorded and made available on the Township's Youtube for later viewing.

Zoom meeting details will be posted with the committee meeting agenda on Friday, August 15, 2025.
