Township of North Kawartha Participating in Evict Radon National Study

The Township of North Kawartha, through Lakelands Public Health, is participating in the Evict Radon National Study, a Canada-wide initiative aimed at improving understanding of residential radon levels.

A limited number of 25 free radon test kits are available to Township of North Kawartha residents on a first come, first served basis.

About the Evict Radon National Study
The Evict Radon National Study provides residents across Canada with the opportunity to test radon levels in their homes. The study is open to individuals who own or rent their residence. Participants must agree to have their test results included in the national dataset. Publicly reported study results will not include names, addresses, or other identifying information.

About Radon
Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that forms from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It can enter buildings through cracks and openings in foundations and accumulate indoors. Radon is invisible, odourless, and tasteless, and testing is the only way to determine radon levels in a home. Long-term exposure to elevated radon levels is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in Canada, after tobacco smoke.

Eligibility and Participation Requirements
To participate, residents must:

  • Own or rent a residence within the Township of North Kawartha

  • Provide proof of residency within the Township

  • Have a valid email address

  • Agree to participate in the Evict Radon National Study and consent to data collection

  • Limit participation to one test kit per residence

Residents without an email address are not eligible to participate.
