  • Road Rehabilitation Work Underway on Select Township Roads

    The Township of North Kawartha Public Works Department would like to advise residents that road rehabilitation work will be taking place on the following roads:

    • Haultain Road
    • Glen Alda Road
    • Winters Bay Road
    • Lakeview Crescent
    • Fitch Lane Road

    Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and is anticipated to continue through Fall 2026.

    The road rehabilitation project will include a range of roadway improvements, including:

    • Ditching
    • Culvert replacements
    • Gravel resurfacing
    • Road grading
    • Surface treatment application

    During construction, residents may experience temporary road closures, increased noise, and minor traffic disruptions. The Township asks motorists and residents to use caution in construction zones and remain mindful of workers and equipment operating in the area.

    Emergency services access will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

    These improvements are part of the Township’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving municipal infrastructure and enhancing the safety and reliability of the local road network.

  • Are You on the Voters List for the 2026 Municipal Election?
    The Township of North Kawartha is reminding residents to confirm they are registered to vote for the Municipal Election taking place on October 26, 2026.
    Ontario’s voter registration process has changed. The Municipal Voters List is now managed through Elections Ontario instead of Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).
    Residents are encouraged to take a few minutes to:
    • Confirm they are registered to vote
    • Update their information if needed
    • Add themselves to the voters list if they are not already registered

  • Roads Reopening Notice for Hogan Lake Road, Mindle Road, and Bush Road

    The Township of North Kawartha advises residents that Hogan Lake Road, Mindle Road, and Bush Road have reopened following repairs related to spring flood damage.

    Tallon Lake Road remains closed at this time.

    Motorists are reminded to continue using caution when travelling in affected areas and to watch for Public Works staff and equipment as crews continue to monitor and address road conditions throughout the Township.

    The Township appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as work continues to address the impacts of spring flooding on our road networks.

  • Road Closure Notice – Spring Flood Damage

    The Township of North Kawartha is advising residents that several Township roads are currently closed due to damage caused by spring flooding.

    The following roads are affected:

    • Hogan Lake Road
    • Mindle Road
    • Bush Road
    • Tallon Lake Road (remains closed)


    These closures have been implemented to ensure public safety and to prevent further deterioration of the road network.

  • Reduced Load Restrictions Lifted – Effective May 1, 2026

    Effective Friday, May 1, 2026, reduced load restrictions have been lifted for all Township of North Kawartha roads.

    The County of Peterborough has also lifted reduced load restrictions on all County roads, effective Friday, May 1, 2026.

    These seasonal restrictions are an important measure used each spring to protect roads during the thaw period when they are most vulnerable to damage.

  • Candidate Nomination Period Opens May 1, 2026 for 2026 Municipal Election

    The Township of North Kawartha is advising residents that the candidate nomination period for the 2026 Municipal Election will open on May 1, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. The municipal election will take place on Monday, October 26, 2026.

    Eligible residents who are interested in running for Municipal Council are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the nomination process, eligibility criteria, and filing requirements. 

    Prospective candidates are required to file their nomination papers in person and are requested to schedule an appointment with the Township’s Returning Officer.

  • Road Reopening Notice – Mill Lake Road and Haultain Road

    The Township of North Kawartha is advising residents that Mill Lake Road and Haultain Road are now open following receding water levels.

    While both roads have reopened, some low-lying areas of Haultain Road remain impacted by water. Motorists are advised to pay close attention to posted signage and proceed with caution when travelling through affected sections.

    Public Works staff will continue to monitor conditions to ensure the safety of the road network.

  • Township of North Kawartha Issues Flood Update and Public Safety Advisory

    April 16, 2026

    North Kawartha, ON – The Township of North Kawartha is advising residents and business owners to remain vigilant as water levels and river flows continue to rise across the region due to significant rainfall, rapid snowmelt, and warm temperatures.

    Parks Canada’s Trent–Severn Waterway reports that the watershed has experienced well above-normal precipitation since March, combined with ongoing snowmelt in northern areas. As a result, lake levels and river flows are at or above full and are expected to continue rising throughout the Trent–Severn system.

    Several Conservation Authorities have issued flood warnings, flood watches, and watershed safety advisories, including areas within Kawartha Conservation, Otonabee Conservation, Lower Trent Conservation, and Crowe Valley Conservation . Provincial flood warnings are also in effect in parts of Ontario, including nearby communities.

  • Flood Warning

    Flood Warning

    Heavy rainfall and continued snowmelt may cause flooding.

    If flooding poses a threat to person or property call 9-1-1.

    Report an issue to the Township if flood waters are in close proximity your structures.

    Sand and sandbags are available to the public just inside the sand dome located at the Township of North Kawartha Roads Garage at 10230 Highway 28, Apsley. Bring a shovel.

  • Tallan Lake Road Closure Due to Culvert Washout 

    April 2, 2026


    Tallan Lake Road is currently closed due to a culvert washout. This section of road is designated as a limited maintenance road and does not receive winter maintenance. As a result of current road conditions, the Township of North Kawartha Public Work staff are unable to safely access the site to complete repairs currently.


    Tallan Lake Road will remain closed until such time that conditions improve, and Public Works staff can safely reach the location to assess and repair the damage.
