Public Notice: Upcoming MTO Culvert Improvements on Highway 28 from Apsley to Bancroft

The Township of North Kawartha has become aware of upcoming road construction planned and coordinated by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), under project GWP 4017-17-00 and contract number 2022-4005, and would like to share that information with residents and travelers.

The purpose of this project is to improve drainage and roadway infrastructure along Highway 28 from Burleigh Street in Apsley to Monck Road in Bancroft (approximately 41 kms).  This road construction will affect areas within the Township of North Kawartha, the Township of Faraday, the Municipality of Highlands East, and the Town of Bancroft. The project will include grading, drainage improvements, culvert rehabilitation and replacement, and paving at various locations.

This work will be carried out by J&P Leveque Bros. Haulage Limited, the contractor for the MTO. Construction is expected to begin as early as August 2025 and continue through to October 2026.

During the construction timeframe, residents and motorists can expect temporary road closures and single lane road closures on weekdays from half an hour after sunrise to half an hour before sunset. In select locations, 24-hour single lane road closures will be required.

The Township of North Kawartha encourages all residents, businesses, and visitors to plan ahead, drive with caution, and follow all posted signage while travelling through the marked construction zones.
