Winter Weather Advisory

The Township of North Kawartha is advising residents that a winter storm system is expected to affect our region on Friday, February 20, 2026, bringing a mix of wintry precipitation including snow and the potential for ice pellets, as the system moves through southern and eastern Ontario.

Forecast models indicate that portions of eastern and central Ontario may see snow accumulations and variable precipitation types, which can create slippery and unpredictable travel conditions.

What residents should know:

  1. Weather conditions may change quickly with a mix of snow and ice pellets at times.
  2. Road surfaces may become slippery,  even small amounts of snow or ice can significantly impact travel.
  3. Visibility could be reduced in snow or wintry mix conditions.

Travel and safety reminders:

  • Adjust driving to current road conditions and allow extra time for travel.
  • Reduce travel where possible, especially during peak storm periods.
  • Be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, even short trips may require caution.
  • Keep a winter emergency kit in your vehicle, including blankets, water, and a flashlight.

The Township will continue to monitor conditions closely and will share updates as more localized information becomes available. Environment Canada weather alerts and forecasts remain the authoritative source for real-time conditions.

Stay safe North Kawartha and exercise caution if travel is necessary.
