Policy Statement:
The Township of North Kawartha is always investigating methods to divert and reduce the amount of garbage being deposited into the Bensfort Road Landfill Site in Peterborough, Ontario. These methods are referred to as Diversion Programs, and include, but are not limited to: the blue box recycling program, waste electronics, scrap metal, leaf and yard waste, residential C & D (Construction and Demolition), organics, etc.
The Township's objective is to divert 50% of the garbage collected in the Township, whether in the Transfer Stations, or at the Curbside.
An interesting off-shoot of this objective was the implementation of the Free Re-Use Depot at the Anstruther Transfer Station.
