The North Kawartha Community and Fitness Centre will be open with weekend hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, on Monday, August 3, 2026.

Garbage & Recycling 

The Haultain and Anstruther Transfer Stations will be open on Monday, August 3, 2026, with Sunday hours of 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., per the summer schedule.

Curbside Garbage and Recycling collection on Monday, August 3, 2026, will operate as normal, with no scheduled changes. Please have your material out at the curbside by 7:00 a.m.

Yellow Heat and Yellow/Orange Air Quality Warning Issued for Region

Lakelands Public Health is urging residents of Haliburton, Kawartha, Peterborough and Northumberland to take precautions to protect against heat- and air quality-related illnesses. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued Heat and Air Quality Warnings for the region. When both heat and air quality warnings are in place, most people should prioritize keeping cool.

Most of the region is under a Yellow Air Quality Warning, while an Orange Air Quality Warning has been issued for Cobourg, Colborne, and Western Northumberland County. The Air Quality Health Index for the region over the next 24 hours ranges from moderate risk (6) to very high risk (10+). Residents are urged to monitor local conditions and take all necessary precautions. In addition, the entire region remains under a Yellow Heat Warning, which was issued on Monday, July 13th.

Both heat and poor air quality can impact the health of anyone, however, some populations may be more vulnerable to health impacts – including the elderly, people with certain medical conditions (e.g., cardiovascular, respiratory), people who are pregnant, and children and infants. People who work or engage in strenuous activity outdoors, and people who are unhoused are also at increased risk. During the warning, it is important to be checking in on friends, family, and neighbours – especially those at higher risk.

(July 13, 2026) – Lakelands Public Health is urging residents of the region to take precautions to protect against heat-related illnesses. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Yellow Heat Warning for the entire region of Haliburton, Kawartha, Northumberland and Peterborough counties, beginning on Monday, July 13 through Thursday, July 16.  

Currently daytime highs are forecasted to reach up to 37° C, with a humidex of 38 to 45. Overnight lows are expected to remain above 20-24°C, providing little relief from the heat. The heat event is expected to end Thursday, July 16.  

Heat-related illnesses include dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. These illnesses can be very dangerous, especially to those most vulnerable to health risks, including the elderly, some people with disabilities or chronic diseases, people who are pregnant, and children and infants. Risk can also be higher for people who work outdoors, people who are unhoused, and those who take medications that affect thermoregulation. 

The Township of North Kawartha has issued Addendum #1 (June 22, 2026) for RFP-02-26 North Kawartha Health Centre Addition.

All interested proponents are strongly encouraged to review the addendum in full, as it forms part of the Request for Proposal documents.

The Township of North Kawartha is requesting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from individuals, businesses, organizations, and service providers interested in leasing a newly renovated commercial office space at 135 Burleigh Street in Apsley. 

The approximately 1,250 sq. ft. unit, formerly occupied by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), has recently been upgraded and is move-in ready. Renovations include new flooring, fresh interior finishes, a kitchenette, an accessible washroom, and updated entrance doors, making the space suitable for a wide range of professional and commercial uses. 

Located within the General Commercial Zone, the property supports a variety of potential uses including business or professional offices, retail, personal services, restaurants, and community-oriented services. 

Through this EOI process, the Township is looking to: 

• Gauge market interest in the space 
• Identify potential tenants and proposed uses 
• Support local economic development and community services 

The Township anticipates an all-inclusive lease structure covering utilities, maintenance, and standard operating costs.

The Township of North Kawartha is advising residents that Old Apsley Road has water over the road due to a beaver dam failing upstream.  

The Township of North Kawartha Public Works Department would like to advise residents that road rehabilitation work will be taking place on the following roads:

• Haultain Road
• Glen Alda Road
• Winters Bay Road
• Lakeview Crescent
• Fitch Lane Road

Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and is anticipated to continue through Fall 2026.

The road rehabilitation project will include a range of roadway improvements, including:

• Ditching
• Culvert replacements
• Gravel resurfacing
• Road grading
• Surface treatment application

During construction, residents may experience temporary road closures, increased noise, and minor traffic disruptions. The Township asks motorists and residents to use caution in construction zones and remain mindful of workers and equipment operating in the area.

Emergency services access will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

These improvements are part of the Township’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving municipal infrastructure and enhancing the safety and reliability of the local road network.

The Township of North Kawartha advises residents that Hogan Lake Road, Mindle Road, and Bush Road have reopened following repairs related to spring flood damage.

Tallon Lake Road remains closed at this time.

Motorists are reminded to continue using caution when travelling in affected areas and to watch for Public Works staff and equipment as crews continue to monitor and address road conditions throughout the Township.

The Township appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as work continues to address the impacts of spring flooding on our road networks.

The Township of North Kawartha is advising residents that several Township roads are currently closed due to damage caused by spring flooding.

The following roads are affected:

• Hogan Lake Road
• Mindle Road
• Bush Road
• Tallon Lake Road (remains closed)

These closures have been implemented to ensure public safety and to prevent further deterioration of the road network.
