    Due to the warmer temperatures over the weekend, some private roads within the Township of North Kawartha have become very icy or muddy, making curbside garbage and recycling collection difficult to perform safely today.

    If your garbage or recycling has not been collected by 6:00 p.m. today (Monday, March 9, 2026), residents are asked to please bring their materials back from the curbside.

    Emterra and Waste Connections will be recording roads or addresses that could not be serviced today and will be collecting double garbage and recycling on the next scheduled collection date on Monday, March 16, 2026.

    Thank you for your patience and understanding as Waste Connections and Emterra work to complete curbside collection safely.

  • Public Notice – Reduced Load Restrictions Effective Monday, March 9, 2026

    The Township of North Kawartha will implement Reduced Load Restrictions on all Township roads beginning Monday, March 9, 2026. 

    The County of Peterborough has already implemented reduced load restrictions on its county roads, effective Monday, March 2, 2026. The following County Roads within North Kawartha are affected:

    • County Road 504
    • County Road 620
    • County Road 54 (Balmer Road)
    • County Road 52 (Jack Lake Road)
  • 2026 Interim Property Tax Bills

    The Township of North Kawartha has issued the 2026 Interim Property Tax Bills to property owners. Bills have been sent by mail or email, depending on each resident’s selected delivery preference.

    Interim Property Tax Installment Due Dates:

    • March 27, 2026
    • May 27, 2026

     

  • Municipal Election Education - Interested in Local Leadership?

    Residents of North Kawartha interested in running for office or supporting a local campaign are invited to attend an upcoming Candidate and Third Party Advertiser Training Session hosted by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. This session will provide an overview of:

    •  Eligibility to run for office or act as a third party advertiser
    • The municipal nomination process
    •  Roles and responsibilities of Council members
    • Campaign finance rules and requirements

    Following the presentation, election staff from municipalities across Peterborough County, including the Township of North Kawartha, will be available to answer questions and share municipality-specific election information.

    This session is free to attend but registration is required. Register online today!

  • Public Notice - Flags at Half-Mast at Municipal Facilities

    The Township of North Kawartha has lowered flags at all municipal facilities to half-mast in recognition of the victims of the tragic mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, which occurred on February 10, 2026.

    Flags will remain at half-mast until sunset on February 17, 2026, at which time they will be returned to full mast in accordance with the federal directive.

    The Township extends its condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this tragedy.

  • North Kawartha Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Survey – Share Your Input!

    The Township is exploring options for public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to support residents, seasonal property owners, visitors, and local businesses. Your feedback will help us determine:

    • Where stations should be located
    •  What type of chargers are most needed
    •  How often they would be used
    •  How EV charging could support local businesses and tourism
    • Whether you own an EV or not, your input matters!

    The survey takes about 5 minutes and will help guide North Kawartha Council’s decisions on future EV infrastructure, partnerships, and funding opportunities.

  • Curbside Collection Update for Monday, January 26, 2026

    Due to current weather and road conditions, curbside garbage collection has been cancelled on all roads within the Township of North Kawartha for Monday, January 26, 2026. In addition, curbside recycling collection has been cancelled on private roads only. Curbside recycling collection on main roads will continue as scheduled. If recycling has not been collected by 5:00 p.m. today, residents are asked to please retrieve materials from the curbside.

    A double garbage and recycling collection will be accepted on Monday, February 2, 2026.

    Due to the weather and road conditions Waste Connections will only be collecting garbage on main roads today.

    If your garbage is not collected by 5pm today, please bring it in and Waste Connections will collect double next Monday.  

    As an alternative, missed curbside garbage and/or recycling collection, will be accepted for free at either Transfer Station, during regular business hours. 

  • Radon Test Kits Still Available for North Kawartha Residents

    A limited number of free radon test kits are still available to Township of North Kawartha residents through Lakelands Public Health as part of the Evict Radon National Study.

    • One kit per residence
    • Available to homeowners and renters
    • Participation contributes to a Canada-wide study

    Kits are available on a first come, first served basis at the Municipal Office in Apsley.

  • Public Notice - Updated Curbside Collection Information for Private Roads and Fire Routes
    The Township of North Kawartha is providing an update to previously shared information regarding curbside garbage collection on Private Roads and Fire Routes.
    Due to ongoing weather and road conditions, Monday, January 5, 2026 curbside garbage collection on Private Roads and Fire Routes is cancelled, and will not be rescheduled this week.
