Road Construction and/or Closures

Municipal 511 is a map-based road information management and communication service highlighting road closures, constructions and reduced load restrictions.

Surface Treatment on Oakridge Drive, Trucker Street, and Tucker Street North 

Minor traffic delays are anticipated, and lane restrictions will be in effect throughout the duration of the work.

Road Construction on Fire Route 10, Haultain Road, and Big Cedar Lake Road

Starting Monday, June 23, 2025, the Township of North Kawartha’s Public Works Department will begin construction on Fire Route 10, Haultain Road, and Big Cedar Lake Road in preparation for surface treatment application.

Minor traffic delays are expected, and lane restrictions will be in place throughout the construction period. Full road closures, if required, will be communicated in advance. Emergency vehicle access will remain open at all times.

Please drive with caution when approaching Township staff or equipment.

Highway 28 and Highway 7 Road Maintenance 

The Township of Douro-Dummer provided notice that road repair work on Highway 28 will start on May 5, 2025, and it is expected to last until October 31, 2025. The stretch of road involved is Highway 28, from Highway 7 to 1 km north of the intersection of Highway 28 and Strickland Street.

The work will include single lane closures at various locations on northbound and southbound lanes. This may cause some inconvenience and delays in traveling that section of highway, please plan your trips accordingly.

 

Eels Creek Bridge Reconstruction

Bellai Alliance Civil Inc. will conduct reconstruction works along Highway 28 Right-of-Way at the Eels Creek Bridge located at the Eels Creek Rest Area (approximately 13.3 km North of Burleigh Falls) from June 3, 2024, to August 2025. The bridge replacement will occur in two stages with one lane open at all times, controlled by temporary traffic signals, and a winter shutdown between December 2024 and May 2025. 

None at this time.

The Township of North Kawartha has become aware of upcoming road construction planned and coordinated by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), under project GWP 4017-17-00 and contract number 2022-4005, and would like to share that information with residents and travelers.

The purpose of this project is to improve drainage and roadway infrastructure along Highway 28 from Burleigh Street in Apsley to Monck Road in Bancroft (approximately 41 kms).  This road construction will affect areas within the Township of North Kawartha, the Township of Faraday, the Municipality of Highlands East, and the Town of Bancroft. The project will include grading, drainage improvements, culvert rehabilitation and replacement, and paving at various locations.

This work will be carried out by J&P Leveque Bros. Haulage Limited, the contractor for the MTO. Construction is expected to begin as early as August 2025 and continue through to October 2026.

During the construction timeframe, residents and motorists can expect temporary closures and single lane closures on weekdays from half an hour after sunrise to half an hour before sunset. In select locations, 24-hour single lane closures will be required. 

The Township of North Kawartha encourages all residents, businesses, and visitors to plan ahead, drive with caution, and follow all posted signage while travelling through the marked construction zones.

Please be advised that Bellai Alliance Civil Inc. will be conducting reconstruction works along the Highway 28 Right-of-Way at the Eels Creek Bridge located at the Eels Creek Rest Area (approx. 13.3km North of Burleigh Falls). Work is scheduled to begin on June 3, 2024, and conclude in August 2025.

Replacement of the HWY 28 Bridge Structure over Eels Creek will be completed in two (2) stages with the bridge reduced to one lane. Access across the structure will be controlled with temporary traffic signals. A winter shutdown of operations will occur between December 2024 – May 2025.  

Traffic Impacts:

Traffic will encounter single lane closures along Highway 28 NBL and SBL with one lane remaining open at all times. Vehicular access across Eels creek will be controlled via temporary traffic signals.
